Trees have always defined our landscapes, this has always been accepted and everyone seems to agree on this. Everyone has an opinion; each has his own truth on the matter.
This kind of evidence continues to exist, until the need arises to build a shopping centre, transport route, housing etc, also demanding their spot in our landscape. Then opinions tend to change, emotions are invoked that represent the everlasting struggle between conservation and evolution.
Reflecting upon this matter if always useful, whether being pro-conservation or pro-evolution. The worst case scenario being: everyone is really sorry, however …
I once heard that the criterion for a society’s development is measured by its attention and care for the life quality of its people and surroundings. From the Mayas until now there have always been examples of how thing should or shouldn’t have been done, it just gives us an idea of how all these –isms can ruin certain things, over and over again.
Let’s just stick to this: there’s hope as long as people are motivated to become doctors, lawyers, farmers or even arborists because they have passion, want to spend time getting to know the rules of the game and are amazed sometimes by life’s simplicity or complexity.

It’s always a pleasure meeting a 2000 year old yew.
