Beech at "'t eilandje"-Antwerp

This beech was saved against all odds, we monitored it during some very extreme construction work, right before last year’s heat wave (see air Photo, arrow, middle right). Constructing a parking at three meters of the trunk at a depth of five meters, requires quite a bit of deliberation, knowhow and common sense. We must be doing something right, because as you can see in the 2004 spring picture, the tree looks happy and healthy. We still monitor it of course.
Heads up to Lou Das from Collier-EPMC and John Nauwelaerts of La Riva for the effort they put into this little example of tree preservation on construction sites.
